We are a high-performance 49er FX pairing in the British Sailing Team. Britain is the most successful Olympic sailing nation of all time.
We are campaigning towards the Paris 2024 Olympics with a burning desire to win a gold medal.
Together we are committed, passionate and determine to ensure our goal is reality.
Teaming up in 2021 as a new partnership, we are very excited to work together to become champions and show the great potential of our team in the three years leading up to the Olympics. We are very confident that together we can reach our end goal of a gold medal at the Olympics. There is something special in our partnership, and with our hard work and determination, you can expect to see us on the top of the podium at the 2024 Olympics.
SASKIA TIDEY
Competitive team sport has always been my passion: from international level netball to representing my nation at x2 Olympic Games.
Through the desire to win and be the best in the role required, I pride myself in the ability to learn faster than the competition.
Pioneering the first all-female 18ft skiff team, campaigning to compete in the J.J Giltinan World Championships Sydney 2013, was not only a powerful experience but a conscious decision to get ahead of the curve on my road to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the 49er FX.
Having medalled at the Olympic test event 2019, World Championships and European Championships, my primary goal was to challenge an Olympic Gold medal performance in Tokyo 2021 for Great Britain.
Losing the Gold medal position in my final race at the Olympic Games in 2021 to finish 6th has challenged my previous campaigning decision making and vision for the future.
I am excited to take on my third Olympic campaign to medal for Team GB with Freya Black.
I am motivated to evolve and challenge my skills as an elite female athlete to perform at the highest level and inspire the next generation of women through my story.
FREYA BLACK
My journey to the 2024 Olympics campaign has been incredibly rewarding.
I started sailing in an Optimist at the age of 8. Competing from the age of 10, I quickly fell in love with the sport.
I moved into a RS Feva where I became Ladies European and National Champion at the age of 14.
Growing out of the Feva, I transitioned into the 29er in 2016 and quickly progressed to the top of the fleet, securing my place in the National Squad.
In 2018, I was crowned Ladies National and European Champion.
A silver medal overall at the 2019 European Championships saw me being selected for the British Sailing Team.
I began my Olympic Journey in a 470 where I campaigned for 18 months and achieved results that saw me in medal contention at the U24 and senior World Championships.
In 2021, I was awarded the Talent Athlete Sports Scheme’s Most Potential Athlete.
I am very excited to continue my sailing journey and challenge a medal in 2024 with Saskia.
I really believe that as a team we can do this, and I am ready to challenge myself and perform to my full potential as an elite athlete.
